Brand and Style Guide
Photo and Video
Photography and videography are the key tools for conveying the Academy brand. They capture the Academy experience and connect with people by showing our story through imagery showcasing the vibrancy and unique experiences available to our community.
We use photography and videography to illustrate the characteristics and qualities of our brand. The images used in our marketing initiatives should best represent the Academy’s incredible setting as well as the rich sense of belonging found within our community.
Video production is a powerful tool we use to support marketing. Video is in alignment with the tone and voice of our brand. All videos produced by the Academy must begin and/or end with our logo and wordmark bumper.
- Natural light is a key element of our photography and videography.
- Act natural: Aim for a mix of candid and camera-aware images.
- Choose unexpected and interesting angles.
- Use dynamic colors and contrast.
- Do not use photographs that include uniforms that are untidy or out of regulation.
- Marks indicating a cadet’s graduation class year should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.
- Use of “USAFA” should be avoided whenever possible in video or scripts.
- Voiceovers use “United States Air Force Academy” and “the Academy” on second reference.
- Cadets’ appearance must meet the standards outlined in Chapter 9 of AFCWI 36-3501 as well as AFI 36-2903.
- Officer and enlisted personnel must meet the dress and appearance policy.
Academy photographs approved for internal and external use can be pulled from Flickr. Faculty and staff in need of professional photography or video support provided by the Marketing Division of the Directorate of Strategic Communications must submit form AF833 to videos@afacademy.af.edu or photos@afacademy.af.edu
