Honoring a Fallen Teammate

Members of the USAFA Flying Team gathered last weekend to remember First Lieutenant Kenneth “KAGE” Allen. A memorial shadow box, paid for by members of the Class of 2017 will be displayed at the 557th Flying Training Squadron. The box includes Kage’s Flying Team patch, retired by the Flying Team members who gathered to remember him. Continue reading

Space Physics and Atmospheric Research Center Photometer

Cadet Zachary Eyler, Class of 2021, and his research advisor Dr. Matthew McHarg are working on a photometer, a device that measures the amount of incoming light, designed to take measurements of the Aurora. The goal of the project is to learn more about the mechanisms responsible for high frequency flickering in the Aurora’s intensity. Continue reading

USAFA Recognizes Class of 2020 Top Graduate

On Thursday 9 July Lt Gen Silveria recognized the USAFA Class of 2020 Top Graduate, 2Lt Zack Bailey during a small ceremony in Polaris Hall. Lt Bailey was also recognized as the Outstanding Cadet in Mechanical Engineering, the Outstanding Cadet in Engineering and the Outstanding Cadet in Academic Performance.

Maj Leah Pound (USAFA '08), a former instructor in the Department of Behavioral Sciences, recently graduated from UConn with a PhD in with a dissertation entitled Sense of Belonging and Racial Diversity at the U.S. Service Academies.

The New and Improved Digital Holography Demonstration System

The Digital Holography Demonstration (DHD) project began in 2019 as a partnership between Air Force Research Labs (AFRL), the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) and the USAFA Physics Department to build, test and improve a hands-on demonstration tool intended to show basic-to-advanced principals in optics, lasers, atmospheric physics and signal processing.
