A Proactive Approach to

Building Resilience

The U.S. Air Force Academy Integrated Resilience Office (IRO) enhances the well-being and readiness of Airmen, Guardians and their families by addressing various aspects of well-being and preventing harmful behaviors. The IRO works with leaders throughout the installation to build healthy climates and create environments free from abuse and harm.

Key aspects of Air Force Integrated Resilience:

Building Resilience: We empower individuals and the community to withstand and recover from adversity by strengthening mental, physical, social, and spiritual well-being.

Preventing Harm: We proactively address harmful behaviors, such as sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, harassment, and suicide, before they occur. We aim to reduce the prevalence of Sexual Assault, Domestic Abuse, Child Abuse, Harassment, Retaliation, and Suicide.

Integrated Approach: We collaborate across multiple disciplines, integrating suicide prevention, sexual assault prevention and response, domestic violence prevention, child abuse prevention, and other risk reduction efforts.

Data-Driven Solutions: Our Integrated Primary Prevention Workforce (IPPW) uses data to make informed decisions to promote a healthy and resilient military community and enhance operational readiness. By analyzing data, we can identify risk and protective factors associated with harmful behaviors like sexual assault, harassment, and suicide, and then develop targeted prevention activities. This data-driven approach allows for proactive intervention, moving beyond reactive responses to harmful behaviors.

Community Engagement: The program emphasizes engaging with the community, including stakeholders like suicide prevention facilitators and resilience trainers, to create a sense of shared responsibility for prevention efforts.
