U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. —

Following the 2017 NCAA Rifle Championships, the Air Force Academy rifle team received a combined seven National Rifle Association Collegiate All-Americans and College Rifle Coaches Association All-American selections this month in smallbore and air rifle.

Based on their individual averages for the year, sophomore Spencer Cap, was named NRA first-team air rifle. In 2016, Cap earned honorable mention honors.

Senior Ryan Jacobs, earned his second NRA second-team honor in air rifle.

Sophomore Anna Weilbacher, earned NRA second-team smallbore, and freshman Logan Ogden received honorable mention air rifle.

This is the first All-American honor for Weilbacher and Ogden.

Three earned All-American plaques from the College Rifle Coaches Association. Cap, Jacobs and Weilbacher were honored based on their individual combined smallbore and air rifle scores.

“While we didn’t shoot our score goals at the NCAA National Rifle Championships, the amount of recognition the individual shooters received from the CRCA and the NRA All-American announcement, attests to the quality of season all our top performers had for the entire year,” said head coach Launi Meili.  “We had our highest team score average by almost 10 points, we set three team records, and three of our shooters each broke an individual match record for either smallbore, air rifle or the combined score. All of our shooters increased their averages, so we headed in the right direction all year. Next season we will focus on a strong finish and hopefully complete the season stronger than we start it.”

The CRCA coaches committee uses all scores shot in collegiate competition for the season to determine the top five for first-team, second five for second-team, and third five for third-team.  The announcement came during the NCAA Rifle Championships at Ohio State University March 11.
