U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Summer flying training operations at the U.S. Air Force Academy are gearing up and will run through July 31 this year.
Flying operations at Davis Airfield take place year-round as part of the Academy’s Airmanship programs: soaring, powered flight, and parachute operations. The flight tempo increases at the airfield during the summer as cadets complete courses.
Summer flying hours are scheduled to run Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Additionally, there may be an occasional Saturday flying training day. The early start is necessary to reduce the impact of afternoon thunderstorms.
Airmanship programs expose cadets to the fundamentals of flying and provide unique leadership and character development opportunities. More than 1,000 cadets participate in the Airmanship programs over the summer months.
This program supports the development of cadets as future U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force officers and leaders. Nearly half of the Academy’s Class of 2026 received an assignment to attend U.S. Air Force pilot training.
