Immersive Training
Cadets build aviation knowledge and skills through a four-year progression of simulator training and live flight experiences. Beginning with aviation fundamentals, they advance to opportunities to fly powered aircraft, including solo flight in the T-53. Advanced virtual flight training introduces skills such as formation flying and low-level navigation, helping prepare interested cadets for future pilot training.
Soaring
For many cadets, their first aviation experience comes in a glider. Introductory flights build confidence and introduce fundamental flying skills, while advanced courses offer opportunities to fly solo. Cadets who excel can become soaring instructor pilots, taking responsibility for training their peers and developing leadership skills while sharing their passion for flight.
Powered Flight
Cadets gain firsthand experience operating powered aircraft while developing fundamental flying skills and sound decision-making. Those interested in precision flying can compete for a place on the Academy’s Flying Team, where they refine their abilities in precision landings, cross-country navigation and instrument flying while representing the Academy in aviation competitions.
Parachuting
Parachute training challenges cadets to overcome fear, build confidence and perform under pressure. Through rigorous instruction in safety and emergency procedures, cadets develop the discipline and judgment needed to execute solo freefall jumps. Those seeking advanced opportunities can pursue instructor training or join the Wings of Blue demonstration and competition team.
Early Path to Wings
Aviation opportunities begin even before cadets enter the Academy. Through the Prep School’s voluntary Early Path to Wings program, cadet candidates can experience flight simulators, orientation flights and aviation-focused learning. These opportunities introduce the fundamentals of flight, build confidence and help participants explore future aviation careers.
