Homeschool Program: The Outer Solar System
Gas Giants, Kuiper Belt, and the Oort Cloud

The Outer Solar System is a fascinating zone of huge gas giant worlds which inhabit the outer our solar system, aka The Last 4 - but they are not alone out there.

Today’s Homeschool Program will focus on the outer solar system, which will include the outer, gas giant planets, the Kuiper Belt beyond Neptune, and the huge Oort Cloud way, way beyond the last planets in our solar system.

Join Dr. Dan Polsgrove, Astronomer, Planetarium educator and former Astronomy professor here at the Academy, for a detailed discussion of the outer solar system. This will include the nature and composition of the gas giant planets, how they form, what makes them different from terrestrial planets, some of the missions humans have sent to these worlds... and also go way beyond the planets to discuss the Kuiper Belt and the Oort Cloud which extend our solar system beyond what we typically think of.

In addition to the Live portion of the show, the inner planets portion of two of our films, Worlds Beyond Earth and Oasis in Space will be included. These clips will give us additional information and beautiful visuals of the inner planets of our solar system.
