Homeschool Program: Earth – Sun – Moon
Wednesday, November 18
10:30 – 11:45am
Today’s Homeschool Program will focus on the Earth – Moon – Sun system.
Join Dr. Dan Polsgrove, Astronomer, Planetarium educator and former Astronomy professor here at the Academy, for a detailed discussion about the Earth – Moon – Sun relationship. which is the basis for our understanding of a great many space science concepts and physical laws of our universe. Some of the topics covered will be Orbits, Moon & Sun, solar system formation, eclipses and how they happen, tides and what causes them, as well as equinoxes/solstices, shat are they and when do they happen. This is a fundamental set of understandings in space science, physics, and astronomy.
In addition to the Live portion of the show, the inner planets portion of two of our films, Worlds Beyond Earth and Oasis in Space will be included. These clips will give us additional information and beautiful visuals of the inner planets of our solar system.
NGSS STANDARDS:
One of the headings of the NGSS and covers many science standards through all grades.
- ESS1B: Earth’s Systems
- 1-ESS1-1 Earth’s Place in the Universe
- 5: Space Systems: Stars and the Solar System
IMPORTANT NOTE: With our limited seating, if you RSVP and your plans change for any reason, please email Jeff our Planetarium Director at planetarium@afacademy.af.edu so we can release your seats to another family who can attend.
