  Obtaining a Nomination 
  In order to be considered for admission to the Academy, you must be nominated by your country. Nominations from your government are processed through the United States Defense Attaché Office/American embassy serving your country and must be received by the Academy by Dec. 15 for the class entering the following June.

  To apply for a nomination, write to your country’s government. Your letter should include complete details about your background and your potential for success at the Academy and should be received at least one year prior to the date of admission. The Defense Attaché Office at the American embassy can direct you to the correct ministry in your country. DO NOT apply directly to the Academy or other United States government officials.

  Once your nomination has been received, the Admissions Office will send a letter to the Defense Attaché Office at the American embassy with detailed instructions for you to complete your application. The Defense Attaché Office will help you complete all required forms as soon as possible and then send them to the Academy on your behalf.

  Eligibility Requirements
  The eligibility requirements for international students differ from those of other applicants. Each international candidate must:

  • Be nominated by their home country’s government.
  • Be unmarried.  International students cannot be married or have dependents. They must also be a citizen of the nominating country, be of good moral character and demonstrate strong leadership potential and academic performance, as well as meet physical and medical standards.
  • Be at least 17 years of age but not past your 23rd birthday on July 1 of the year of entry.
  • Be proficient in reading, writing and speaking contemporary English.
  • Have an acceptable academic record.

  Required Tests
  The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) reasoning test is required for admission. Admissions will only accept the SAT reasoning test, not the SAT subject tests. The SAT must be taken by Dec. of the year before entry.

  SAT REGISTRATION INFORMATION

  The College Board International Education Office in Washington, D.C., represents college board programs to international audiences and serves as an information link and liaison to overseas educational advisers, counselors at international schools, and U.S. college and university staff involved in international student recruitment activities. Students may register online.

  Appointments
  All required documents must be received by the Admissions Office by March 1 of the year of entry; however, your Defense Attaché Office may have an earlier deadline. Appointments to the Academy are awarded on a competitive basis and are made in April of each year.
