979 cadets to graduate May 24

Nearly 1,000 cadets will receive bachelor degrees and commissions as second lieutenants May 24.

In all, 979 cadets are slated to graduate with the Class of 2017.

All service academy graduates entering active duty incur a five-year service commitment and an additional concurrent service commitment, depending on the type of training or scholarships they’ll receive, according to U.S. Code.

For example, graduating cadets slated to attend pilot training incur an active duty service commitment of 10 years after earning their pilot wings.

After completing their training, combat system navigators and remotely piloted aircraft sensor operators incur a six-year commitment, while airborne battle managers incur a three-year commitment.

Service academy graduates completing ABM training incur two concurrent service commitments, such as the five-year service academy graduate commitment and the ABM training three-year commitment, according to U.S. Code.

The Stats

— 1,475 cadets were offered appointments into the Class of ‘17

— 1,190 were inducted into the Academy

— 77.1 percent, or 917, of those inducted were men

— 22.9 percent, or 273, of those inducted were women

— 29.9 percent, or 356, were minorities

— 46 percent, or 532, were potentially pilot qualified

— 16 cadets were international, or foreign exchange, students

— The Cadet Wing’s average high school GPA was 3.83

— The Cadet Wing’s average SAT scores were 643, verbal, and 669, math

— The Cadet Wing’s average ACT scores were 30, English, 30.4, reading, 30.03, math, and 30, science reasoning

— 752 men and 227 women are scheduled to graduate

— 282 of those scheduled to graduate are minorities. Ninety-three are African-American, 92 are Hispanic, 67 are Asian, 18 are Pacific Islanders, and 12 are Native Americans

— 14 international students from Iraq, Lithuania, Malaysia, Moldova, Nigeria, Peru, the Philippines, Romania, Rwanda, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the Gambia

— 122 graduates in the Class of 2017 graduated from the Air Force Academy Preparatory School

— 50 graduates are former enlisted service members

— The Class of 2017’s cumulative GPA is 3.04

— The Class of 2017’s attrition rate is 18.4 percent, or 204

— Three sets of twins will graduate

— 10 graduates are the third child in their family to graduate from the Academy

— 66 graduates are the second child in their family to graduate from the Academy

— 76 cadets are second-generation graduates. Both parents of 11 cadets attended the Academy

— 386 graduates are slated to attend pilot training

— 9 graduates are scheduled to attend combat systems operator training

— 3 graduates will attend air battle manager training

— 82 graduates will become remotely piloted aircraft operators

— 480 graduates are slotted to become rated officers

— To date, 43,338 Airmen officers have graduated from the Academy

— 707 graduates have been promoted to the general ranks

– 142 Air Force general on active duty are Academy graduates
