Bio

Lt Col Michael C. Todd is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer and Cyber Sciences at the United States Air Force Academy. Previously, he served as Commander of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), Collections, and Nexus Center, Detachment 2, at Peterson Space Force Base, Colo., where he oversaw professional investigative services, cyber operations consulting, and specialized training. He also led the implementation of operational cyber platforms and supported major criminal investigations involving Air Force personnel and assets in cyberspace.

Lt Col Todd enlisted in the Air Force in 2002 and later commissioned through the Scholarships for Outstanding Airmen and Guardians to ROTC program at the University of Oklahoma in 2010. Recruited by AFOSI, he has held multiple cyber-focused roles, including Cyber Counterintelligence Agent, Cyber Case Agent, and Director of Cyber Operations. He previously commanded Expeditionary Detachment 2503 at Air Base 101 in Niamey, Niger, before transitioning to his current academic assignment.

Education

Lt Col Todd began his Air Force career in 2002 at Basic Military Training in Lackland AFB, followed by specialized training in Morse, signals collection, and analysis at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. and Corry Station, Fla. He later completed the Air and Space Basic Course at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. and professional law-enforcement preparation through the Criminal Investigator Training Program and Basic Special Investigators Course at Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. He earned a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Oklahoma in 2010, an M.S. in Cybersecurity from the University of Maryland in 2014, and an M.S. in Cyber Operations from the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in 2016. Lt Col Todd completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at AFIT in 2025.
