Supt’s Corner: Academy honors families, community

family and community

By Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria, Air Force Academy Superintendent/Aug. 31, 2017

Dear Academy friends and family,

For each home football game this season we will designate a weekly theme that highlights an epitome of excellence in today’s Air Force. We celebrate these themes to honor our supporters and history, inspire conversations on our programs and people, and highlight domains that are driving innovation and shaping the future of modern warfare.

We kickoff this year’s football season with “Family and Community” because these relationships are the cornerstone to our mission success in training and educating the future leaders of character for our Air Force.

At the Air Force Academy, recognizing family and community means many things. It includes honoring the parents and immediate family members of our cadets, faculty, staff, and alumni, and thanking them for their care and encouragement. It includes thanking our cadet sponsor families for their generosity and selfless dedication, and acknowledging the support of friends and industry partners in Colorado Springs and the Front Range region. Thank you all for being outstanding wingmen!

Our aim to instill the core values of integrity, service, and excellence in our future leaders does not end ‘on the hill.’  The friends, families, mentors, and partners in the community are essential to this development. It takes the entirety of this supportive network to keep our Academy functioning at its best, as we prepare our cadets to fly, fight and win in air, space and cyberspace. Your contributions are indispensable. Thank you for joining us here today, enjoy the game, and Go Falcons!
