This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for Wednesday, January 7th — 

On this day, back in 1961 — The Academy swimming team holds the first annual “USAFA Swimming Relay Championships.”  Nine teams and 200 athletes participated, with the University of Denver edging Air Force for the first place team trophy. 

…Also on this day, back in 2010 — The Academy’s Wings of Blue parachute team jumps into the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, before the NCAA football national championship game between Alabama and Texas.  They carried the American flag, the game ball, and the game coin into the stadium packed with 93,000 spectators.  Alabama won 37-21.
