This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for Monday, January 26th —
On this day, back in 1983 — The Academy Preparatory School receives an F-100 “Super Sabre” aircraft for static display. The plane, which had been flown in 1957 by then-Major Robinson Risner, exemplar for the Class of ’21, was airlifted by Chinook helicopter from Fort Carson.
…Also on this day, back in 2000 — FalconSAT-1, a satellite designed and built by cadets, launches from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, aboard a remodeled Minuteman III. The mission was to study the effects of dangerous charges that could build up on a spacecraft over long periods of time.
