A memorial shadow box, paid for by members of the Class of 2017 will be displayed at the 557th Flying Training Squadron. The box includes Kage’s Flying Team patch, retired by the Flying Team members who gathered to remember him. 8 cadets graduate in July 30 ceremony

The graduates are Tyler Belyeu, Kyle Bundesmann, Steven Lamoureux, Eric Long, Kealohilani Mahi-Lyons, Denise Ssozi, Megan Weld and Trevor Whiteside. Belyeu earned a bachelor’s in management; Bundesmann, Mahi-Lyons and Weld earned a bachelor’s in biology; Lamoureux and Whiteside earned a bachelor’s in general studies; Long earned a bachelor’s in civil engineering; and Ssozi earned a bachelor’s in legal studies. Cadet Research Spotlight: Space Physics and Atmospheric Research Center Photometer

by Nicole Cox, USAFA Graduate Liaison Cadet Zachary Eyler, Class of 2021, and his research advisor Dr. Matthew McHarg are working on a photometer, a device that measures the amount of incoming light, designed to take measurements of the Aurora. The goal of the project is to learn more about the mechanisms responsible for high frequency flickering in the Aurora’s intensity. Cadet Eyler’s efforts to program the photometer have led to an ability to get real-time read outs of auroral conditions. His program quickly analyzes the incoming data, writes it to a file and sends instruction back to the photometer....

U.S. Air Force Academy, July 23, 2020 U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- The Secretary of Defense has designated all accession sources and military training pipelines as mission essential. On Thursday 9 July Lt Gen Silveria recognized the United States Air Force Academy Class of 2020 Top Graduate, 2Lt Zack Bailey during a small ceremony in Polaris Hall. Lt Bailey was also recognized as the Outstanding Cadet in Mechanical Engineering, the Outstanding Cadet in Engineering and the Outstanding Cadet in Academic Performance. Lt Bailey is a recipient of the Marshall Scholarship and is on his way to King’s College London in the fall. Congratulations Lt Bailey!

Cadet Research Spotlight: The New and Improved Digital Holography Demonstration System The Digital Holography Demonstration (DHD) project began in 2019 as a partnership between Air Force Research Labs (AFRL), the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) and the United States Air Force Academy Physics Department to build, test and improve a hands-on demonstration tool intended to show basic-to-advanced principals in optics, lasers, atmospheric physics and signal processing.
