
Bio
Major David Smith is an instructor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado. Prior to becoming an instructor, he was assigned to B-1 Operational Test Weapon Systems Officer in the 337th Test and Evaluation Squadron at Dyess AFB, Texas. As a member of the 337th TES, Major Smith evaluated the suitability of software and hardware upgrades for the B-1 and helped to develop new B-1 tactics, techniques, and procedures.
Maj Smith graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2005 with a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics. His first assignment was at the Air Force Institute of Technology where he graduated in 2006 with a Masters of Science in Mathematics.
Major Smith completed Undergraduate Navigator Training at NAS Pensacola, FL in 2008 and graduated from the B-1 Initial Qualification Course at Dyess AFB, TX in 2009. He served as a B-1 WSO in the 34th Bomb Squadron and 28th Operational Support Squadron at Ellsworth AFB, SD from 2010 to 2014 before his assignment at the 337th TES. He was deployed as a B-1 WSO to Al Udeid AB, Qatar from July 2016 to December 2016, executing 334 hours of close air support in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. In addition, he was deployed as a member of the Air Defense Liaison Team in Baghdad, Iraq and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from July 2011 to November 2011.
