Weekend of January 31st and February 1st

This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for the weekend of January 31st & February 1st —

On this weekend, back in 1970 –– Lieutenant General Benjamin O. Davis Jr. retires from active duty.  On December 9, 1998, President William Clinton would call him out of retirement for one day and advance him to the rank of four-star general in a ceremony at the White House.  General Davis Jr. is the recipient of the Academy’s 1995 T. D. White Award and the namesake of the Academy airfield.

…Also on this weekend, in 1990 — The Academy’s Cadet Chorale performs for President George H. W. Bush and members of Congress at the National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton in Washington D.C.
