This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for Monday, January 12th — 

On this day, back in 1978 — Entertainer and humanitarian Bob Hope receives the 1977 T. D. White Award during ceremonies in Mitchell Hall after the Noon Meal Formation.  The award, established in 1962, was presented annually to a U.S. citizen who had contributed significantly to the national defense of the United States. 

…Also on this day, back in 1995 — The Academy hosts the 19th Annual Aerospace Education Symposium.  Sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Region Civil Air Patrol, it attracted 126 educators from around the country.  The event was dedicated to aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky.  His son Sergei delivered the keynote address.
