This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for Friday, March 20th —

On this day, back in 1992 — President George H. W. Bush presents the 1991 Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy to members of the Academy football team in a White House ceremony. The event took place in the Roosevelt Room.

…Also on this day, back in 2012 — The artificial turf glider landing strip at the airfield is unveiled. The turf measured 1.41 million square feet, (430 feet wide and 3,000 feet long, the equivalent of 23 football fields). It was thought to be the largest single installation of synthetic turf in the world.
