Friday, December 12th

This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for Friday, December 12th —

On this day, back in 1976 — The book “Letters to Star Trek” by Susan Sackett is published.  It included a letter from Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry granting permission for Cadet Squadron 19 to use an image of the U.S.S. Enterprise starship on its squadron patch.  The approval was in response to a letter from Cadet Stephen Herlt, Class of ‘77.  The patch was designed by Cadet Brent Glines, Class of ’76.

…Also on this day, back in 1995 — The National Defense Colloquium takes place at the Officers’ Club.  The topic was “Developments in Chinese Security Policy.”
