Bio

Dr. Daniel Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Reading and Professional Communication in the Academic Success Center. He works directly with cadets as the Program Lead in the USAFA Public Speaking Lab, where he helps cadets improve and refine their oral communication skills. Dr. Johnson also facilitates the development of critical and effective reading habits among cadets as an instructor in the Reading Strategies Program.

Dr. Johnson has over 15 years of collective teaching experience in Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, and Organizational Communication. Previously, he taught communication coursework at Marion Military Institute, University of Denver, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Pikes Peak Community College, and RETS Technical College.

In addition to instruction, Dr. Johnson has over 5 years of administrative and leadership experience building collaboration across students, faculty, and staff while serving as a Department Chair, Speech Center Supervisor, Scheduling Coordinator, Teaching Development Leader, and Technology Coordinator. Dr. Johnson also has two years of project management and marketing experience in consumer research and regional advertising. His research interests include Interpersonal Communication, Public Speaking, Interview Strategies, Online Presentation Strategies, and Family Communication.

Overall, with his extensive instructional and advisory experience in higher education, Dr. Johnson truly enjoys helping students from diverse backgrounds become more effective communicators as they strive to achieve their academic, professional, and personal goals.
