Weekend of December 13th and 14th

This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for the weekend of December 13th & 14th —

On this weekend, back in 1977 — The Director of Athletics, Colonel John Clune, announces that Bill Parcells, defensive coordinator at Texas Tech, will become the Academy’s head football coach, effective January 1, 1978. Parcells would coach at the Academy for only one season.

…Also on this weekend, in 2008 — The 306th Flying Training Squadron activates the 1st Flying Training Squadron at Pueblo Memorial Airport. The unit, formerly Detachment 1, oversaw the Air Force’s Initial Flight Screening program.
