Wednesday, August 13th

This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for Wednesday, August, 13th –

On this day, back in 1970 — Captains Alan Cheeseman, Class of ’66, and George Henry Jr., Class of ’67, are killed when their CH-3 helicopter is struck by hostile ground fire and crashes during a training mission north of Ubon Airfield, Thailand.  Their names appear on the Graduate War Memorial on the Academy Terrazzo.

…Also on this day, back in 2018 — The tenth telescope in the Academy’s Falcon Telescope Network is installed at the Farish Recreation Area, Woodland Park, Colorado, just west of the Academy.  The FRH-Falcon was the fifth Academy telescope observatory in Colorado.  The site was developed in collaboration with the MITRE Corporation.
