This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for Thursday, September 18th –  

On this day, back in 1972 — The Academy’s Airman Dining Hall hosts a Gala Dinner to celebrate the Air Force’s 25th anniversary.  The event was open to all Academy military and civilian personnel. Today the Air Force celebrates its 78th anniversary since President Harry Truman established the service as a separate branch of the U.S. military in 1947. 

Also on this day, in 2003 — The Falcon Heritage Forum celebrates the 30th anniversary of the return of POWs from Vietnam with graduate speakers from Operation Homecoming.
