This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for Thursday, March 6th—
On this day, back in 1998 — The Wakin Award is presented for the first time. Named in honor of Retired Brigadier General Malham Wakin, the award recognizes the individual or team making the greatest contribution to cadet character development over the past calendar year. The first recipient was Retired Lieutenant General Bradley Hosmer, Class of ’59, the first Academy graduate to serve as the school’s superintendent.
…Also on this day, back in 2019 — More than 400 cadets attend a special early screening of the film Captain Marvel, two days before its nationwide release. The title character, Carol Danvers, was depicted as an Air Force Academy graduate, appearing in the movie wearing the iconic “USAFA T-shirt.”
