Monday, September 8th

This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for Monday, September 8th —

On this day, back in 1964 — Senior Master Sergeant Robert Olmstead is appointed as the USAFA Parachuting Club’s first enlisted advisor.  He would work with the team until 1967, and then again from 1970 until 1975.  He helped create the original Airmanship-490 program, which awarded basic parachute wings to those who completed it.  It was the only first-jump solo unassisted freefall school in the world.

…Also on this day, back in 2000 — The B-29 Superfortress statue is dedicated.  The memorial, sculpted by Robert Henderson, is displayed on the Honor Court.
