
Bio
Maj Marcus Catchpole is an Instructor of Computer and Cyber Sciences at the United States Air Force Academy, where he serves as the Course Director for CS 110, Introduction to Computer Science and the engineering division executive officer. He has published cross-disciplinary research on infrastructure degradation using machine learning, work that also led to a U.S. patent.
Before his current assignment, Maj Catchpole was a project manager at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. There, he led multiple research initiatives, including projects focused on the application of artificial intelligence. During this time, he also deployed to Southwest Asia, where he served as the Mission Support Group Executive Officer for the 332d Air Expeditionary Wing.
Earlier in his career, he served as an Operations Flight Commander in a recruiting squadron, where he coordinated with four medical entrance processing stations and oversaw recruitment operations across a 450,000-square-mile region. Under his leadership, his team successfully sent more than 2,000 civilians to Basic Military Training.
Maj Catchpole began his Air Force career as an engineer supporting the F-4, A-10, and F-16 aircraft. He was responsible for sustainment, procurement, and repair of numerous components and served as the technical lead for integrating upgraded communications avionics.
