Major Kaz “Dexter” Moffett is an Instructor of Physics in the Physics and Meteorology Department at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. Maj Moffett entered the Air Force in 2015 after commissioning from the U.S. Air Force Academy. He received his Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 2017.
While at the AF Academy, he worked on several research projects in the physics department to include the development of a novel process of creating sulfur-doped silicon for future application in solar technology and infrared detection. At the AF Institute of Technology, his thesis involved the initial characterization of hydrothermally grown single-crystal thorium dioxide in support of the development of a proprietary solid-state neutron detector.
Upon graduation from AFIT, he attended Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Rapid Execution and Combat Targeting System (REACT) Initial Skills Training at Vandenberg SFB, CA where he graduated with academic achievement. Maj Moffett was then assigned to the 321st Missile Squadron at FE Warren AFB, WY where he served as a Missileer, Crew Commander, Mission Lead and Instructor/MMIII. He was then selected to attend the United States Air Force Weapons School at Nellis AFB, NV. Upon graduating, he was assigned to the 319th Missile Squadron where he served as the Training Flight Commander, Chief of Weapons and Tactics and Squadron Weapons Officer. He has led multiple large-scale exercises and operations to include Exercise GLOBAL THUNDER, Operation OLYMPIC STEP and Operation OLYMPIC RAMPART. Maj Moffett is a Minuteman III Weapons Officer with +7300 hours of nuclear alert time.
