Bio

Captain Joseph W. Haefner is an Instructor in the Physics Department at the U.S. Air Force Academny, Colo. As an instructor he is responsible for the education and development of cadets toward fulfilling their undergraduate commission into the U.S. Air Force.

Capt Haefner is a Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) commissioned officer teaching the core physics curriculum to the cadet wing at USAFA. While at Michigan Technological University he worked as a research intern developing a tunable photonic filter for the suppression of co-site interference, increasing the performance or RF communication systems. Upon graduation, he was competitively selected to attend the Air Force Institute of Technology where he studied Electro-Optics, earning his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. His thesis focused on the modeling and characterization of photodetectors for use with monolithic Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) integration on Silicon. He has worked on an Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) Star Team investigating the demonstration of a novel hybrid mode locking method in fiber lasers to suppress cavity noise, as well as the optical generation of microwave signals.
