Major Matthew Johnson
Deputy Associate Dean for Educational Innovation &
Instructor of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Bio
Major Johnson currently serves as Deputy Associate Dean for the Center of Educational Innovation at the U.S. Air Force Academy. A 2002 graduate of Oregon State University, Maj Johnson reported to Hanscom AFB in June of 2003, where he served as a program manager for the C4ISR Enterprise Integration SPO. Having been accepted to the Air Force Institute of Technology, Maj Johnson was awarded a Master of Science degree in electro-optics in March of 2007. He then reported to the Air Force Research Laboratory at Eglin AFB in May of 2007, where he served as the IPT lead for infrared scene projection, as Chief of the Fuze Electronics Section, and as Chief of the Weapons Dynamics and Controls Science Branch. Maj Johnson was then accepted into the USAFA faculty pipeline and was awarded a PhD degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 2013, where he demonstrated a world record speed for laser beam steering and co-discovered the underpinning physical theory. He reported next to the National Reconnaissance Office where he managed a $96M services contract shaping current and future national space vehicle operations. Maj Johnson is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, having served as the executive officer for the 451st Air Expeditionary Group in Kandahar, Afghanistan from January to April 2008.
