Bio

Jean W. LeLoup (Ph.D., The Ohio State University) has taught Spanish at the junior high, senior high and college levels for more than 40 years and is currently Professor of Spanish in the Department of Foreign Languages at USAFA. She is co-founder and co-moderator of FLTEACH, the Foreign Language Teaching Forum discussion list. Her current areas of research are the integration of the voseo in the Spanish language curriculum, language immersion in the classroom, and the Oral Proficiency Interview.

Adolescence Education Coordinator for ICC. SUNY Cortland Director, Intensive Teacher Institute/Bilingual Education (2001-2007). Retired 31 August 2009; Professor Emerita.

1974-1990: Spanish Teacher, Foreign Language Department Chair, Guidance Counselor, Webster Groves School District, St. Louis, Missouri.

Honors & Awards

2020: American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) Outstanding Scholarly Publication Award for “Forms of Address in the Spanish Language Curriculum in the United States: Actualities and Aspiration” published in Hispania 101.1 (2018): pp. 10-24; with Barbara Schmidt-Rinehart.

2016, 2011, 2006, & 2001: New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers (NYSAFLT) Anthony Papalia Award for Outstanding Article on Foreign Language Education

2012-2013: Robert F. McDermott Award for Faculty Research Excellence in the Humanities (USAFA).

2012:  William H. Heiser Award for USAFA Outstanding Senior Faculty Educator, USAFA.

2011: USAFA winner, Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Technology Award. USAFA nominee for the Ernest L. Boyer International Award.

2010: Outstanding Academy Educator, Department of Foreign Languages, United States Air Force Academy.
