Homeschool Open House: Astronomy All Summer Long
Monday, May 12 from 1:00 – 2:15pm
Important Note about required Base Pass included below
To conclude our Homeschool Open House program for the 2024-25 academic year, we return to our wildly popular Astronomy All summer Long program.
This show will highlight how students and families can do Astronomy throughout the summer – both just by going outside to look up with your naked eyes, and with the aid of a telescope – yours or at a stargazing event.
- Stargazing and Astronomy topics will include:
- Stars and why they have different colors
- Constellations vs Asterisms and which are visible throughout the summer
- Galaxies
- Nebulae
- The “Blaze Star” – T. Coronae Borealis
- and more!
After the Live portion of the program will be the short film, Two Small Pieces of Glass.
“Two Small Pieces of Glass – The Amazing Telescope show follows two students as they interact with a female astronomer at a local star party.
Along the way, the students learn the history of the telescope from Galileo’s modifications to a child’s spyglass — using two small pieces of glass — to the launch of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and the future of astronomy.
Aiming to engage and appeal to audiences of all ages, the show explores the wonder and discovery made by astronomers throughout the last 400 years.”
Show running time: ~75 min.
NGSS Science Standards covered include, but are not limited to:
- ESS1: The Universe and its Stars
- Space Systems: Stars and the Solar System
- ESS1: Earth’s Place in the Universe
