Bluebards

Members of the U.S. Air Force Academy cadet theater troupe, Bluebards.

The U.S. Air Force Academy cadet theater troupe, Bluebards, produces two to three musicals or plays annually, featuring 30 to 40 cadet actors and technical crew. These performances are free to the public and are planned, produced, and performed by cadets in their off-duty hours. Past productions include Clue, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Sherlock Holmes, The Addams Family, All Shook Up, Murder on the Orient Express, The Music Man, and A Christmas Carol.

The troupe’s mission is to be a welcoming and inclusive community that promotes interpersonal connection, emotional intelligence, and a deep understanding of the human condition through the performing arts. They foster creative passion and cultivate virtuous leadership, both within the Bluebards community and among audience members.

There is a wonderful mix of experienced and new performers in each production.

Club Accomplishments

In addition to producing plays, Bluebards uses theater to promote leadership, justice, and understanding of the human condition. The club developed and performed an original piece of theater, Depth of our Souls, that addressed the historical trauma of the Holocaust. The play was staged for the Academy’s inaugural conference on War, the Holocaust, and Human Rights in October 2023.

Bluebards is a welcoming group that encourages all cadets, regardless of their experience, to participate. The club forges deep, meaningful friendships as casts become tight-knit families, and the bonds between members endure beyond the closing of shows and graduation. For those who have participated in theater, it will be an activity to continue. For first-timers, it can build self-confidence, communication and teamwork skills.
