This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for Wednesday, April 2nd–
On this day, back in 2017 — At the age of 87, (Retired) Colonel “Buzz” Aldrin became the oldest person to fly with the Air Force Thunderbirds. In 1955 and 1956, then-First Lieutenant Aldrin had been a member of the original Academy cadre at Lowry Air Force Base, serving as Aide to the Dean of the Faculty.
…Also on this day, back in 2020 — (Retired) Colonel Pamela Powers, Class of ‘89, is chosen to serve as the Acting Deputy Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The first female to hold the position, she was also the VA’s Chief of Staff.
