Weekend of March 22nd and 23rd-

This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for the Weekend of March 22nd and 23rd

On this day, back in 1996  —  The Space Shuttle Atlantis journeys into space, with three Air Force Academy graduates on board.  Ronald Sega, Class of ’74, was payload commander of mission STS-76, which Kevin Chilton commanded, and Richard Searfoss piloted.  This was the sixth Space Shuttle mission with three grads.

…Also this weekend, back in  2020  —  The first case of COVID-19 at the Academy is diagnosed.  The employee was a civilian working for the 10th Air Base Wing.  He was hospitalized in Colorado Springs.  A press release issued two days later said, “There is no indication the individual had any direct or indirect contact with cadets.”
