Mountaineering

The mission of the U. S. Air Force Academy Mountaineering Club is deeply rooted in the institution’s dedication to physical fitness, resilience, leadership, and teamwork. Its origins can be traced back to the early years of the institution, reflecting the enduring spirit of adventure and exploration.

The Mountaineering Club is dedicated to teaching essential skills to cadets. From learning fundamental skills such as rope handling, and building anchors to obtaining avalanche certifications, the sky is the limit. Additionally, the club receives Tier 1 level training in Tactical Combat Casualty Care., which provides basic life-saving skills for dynamic environments.

Cadets are faced with opportunities for growth in small team leadership as they navigate mountaineering challenges. They learn to communicate effectively and make decisions under pressure in a unique outdoor environment.

Members train at the cadet gym and hone their skills during field trips across the front range. Club members are empowered to embrace adventure. While mastering ice and snow climbing techniques, they develop the confidence to overcome obstacles both on and off the mountain.
