Friday, May 9th
This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for Friday, May 9th–
On this day, back in 1972 — Operation Linebacker begins. It was the first large-scale, continuous bombing effort against Vietnam since Operation Rolling Thunder ended in late 1968. The previous day, President Richard Nixon had approved the operation, which included authorization for attacks on Hanoi and the mining of Haiphong Harbor, as a military measure to end the Vietnam War. Academy graduates played key roles in the campaign.
…Also on this day, back in 2018 — The Academy celebrates the completion of its new clubhouse at the Eisenhower Golf Course with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The club house was completely paid for with funds generated by Air Force Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs.
