Senior Cadet Yarwood Takes Command of Cadet Wing

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. —

Cadet 1st Class Jacob Yarwood became the busiest cadet at the Air Force Academy Jan. 4 when he assumed command of the Cadet Wing.

Yarwood took over command from Cadet 1st Class Sara Fishbein in a change-of-command ceremony in Mitchell Hall.

Cadet Wing commander-candidates undergo squadron, group and wing level interviews before their selection is approved. As CW commander, Yarwood will run the day-to-day operations of 4,000 cadets for the spring semester.

“It’s a great opportunity to not only develop my own leadership skills, but to leave a lasting impact on the CW to ensure all four classes are effectively trained for the semester in preparation for their future challenges and their commission,” he said.

Along with his commander duties, Yarwood will wrap up his last semester as a Class of 2017 mechanical engineering major. Along the way, he’ll oversee several milestones for the CW, including 100s Night for the Class of 2017 and Recognition of the Class of 2020.

Yarwood said his goal is to motivate and guide the CW to exceed the standards and prepare each class for the challenges ahead.

“I intend to also focus on maintaining motivation, effectively communicating, instilling a sense of responsibility to the cadet squadrons, and leaving a legacy,” he said.

Yarwood is slated to attend pilot training at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas after graduating.
