This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for Monday, August 11th — 

On this day, back in 1971 — The Academy hosts the Fifth Annual National AAU Junior Olympics. Over 650 high school athletes competed in events including track and field, swimming and diving, judo, and gymnastics. 

…Also on this day, back in 2017 — Lieutenant General Jay Silveria, Class of ’85, becomes the Academy’s 20th Superintendent during a ceremony at the Class Wall on the Terrazzo. The Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General David Goldfein, Class of ’83, presided over the transfer of command.
