This is your official Air Force Academy History Update for Wednesday, May 7th– 

On this day, back in 1918  —  Flying a Nieuport 28 aircraft, First Lieutenant Edward Rickenbacker, who would go on to be the leading American ace of World War I, records his first solo victory when he downs a German Pfalz.  Captain Rickenbacker is the exemplar of the Class of ’04. 

…Also on this day, back in 2015 — President Barack Obama presents the 2014 Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy to members of the Academy football team in a White House ceremony.  The event took place in the East Room.
