#1 School in Astro and Aero Engineering
U.S. News and World Report ranked the Academy as one of the nation’s best undergraduate educational institutions in the publication’s 2022 annual report. The Best Colleges Rankings report rates the Academy as third in the Top Public Schools category and names the Astronautical Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering programs as the best in the nation at schools where a doctorate is not offered.

The 64th Academy Assembly focused on the future of space policy and defense. The group discussions, panel presentations, and speakers touched on the many dimensions of space, including engineering space sustainability and the role of international institutions and government in the domain. Lt. Gen. John E. Shaw, U.S. Space Command deputy commander, spoke to cadets about the convergence of the commercial, civil and national security space sectors in the current space age.

The athletic requirements included in the core curriculum make the Academy a unique experience. Cadets must take 10 physical education classes, including two types in combatives. These courses teach cadets to react under pressure, develop self-confidence and demonstrate the mental toughness required to survive and prevail in unarmed combat situations. The mindset instilled in cadets will be used in their military careers and beyond.

The Air Force 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year visited the Academy. One highlight of their visit included spending a day- from first military duty to the last- shadowing cadets at classes, training and after-school activities. The 12 OAY will return in February when they present a panel at the 30th Annual National Character and Leadership Symposium.

Mitchell Hall erupted with applause and the clanging of furniture when Superintendent Lt. Gen. Richard Clark introduced Richard Petty, the NASCAR legend, during his visit to the school. Cadets checked out two NASCAR Next Gen Chevrolet branded to represent the Air Force and the Space Force with 670-horsepower engines capable of speeds above 200 mph.

The Falcons bring home the Commander in Chief’s Trophy with the 13-7 win over Army, Nov. 5. in the 2022 Commander’s Classic at Globe Life Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Air Force claimed its 21st Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy as it swept both Navy and Army this season. With the win, Air Force claims bowl eligibility for the 13th time in 16 seasons under head coach Troy Calhoun. The Falcons snapped a two-game losing skid to Army and improved to 38-18-1 in the series.
