Bio
Colonel Sloan is the Permanent Professor and Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the United States Air Force Academy. He has served as a USAFA Permanent Professor since 2018. He currently leads a team of 21 faculty and staff in the design and teaching of 30 core and elective civil engineering courses, in scholarship across a variety of civil and environmental engineering disciplines, and in developing of officers of character for the United States Air Force and Space Force.
Col Sloan served as the inaugural Associate Dean of Human Capital Management and served with the Headquarters Space Force Mission Sustainment (S4O) office where he led the development and publishing of the Space Force’s first Mission Sustainment Strategy. He commanded the 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron at Cannon Air Force Base New Mexico where he led the squadron to three Air Force level awards including the Best Small Civil Engineer Squadron, Best Environmental Restoration Program, and Best Asset Management Program. Col Sloan received his commission as a distinguished graduate from the United States Air Force Academy in May 1998. He is a fully qualified Joint Staff Officer and a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Virginia.
