Visiting Faculty Program
The Department of Aeronautics at the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA/DFAN) is seeking fresh perspectives on aeronautical engineering education. To that end, I am inviting you to apply to USAFA’s Visiting Faculty Program and join us from June 29, 2020 to May 27, 2021 (one academic year).
The Visiting Faculty Program (VFP) is an opportunity to instruct undergraduate students in aeronautical engineering at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. This program affords visiting professors the opportunity to use the world-class research, wind tunnel, and high performance computing facilities in the Department of Aeronautics. Courses of instruction range from basic aerodynamics and fluid mechanics to advanced aeroelasticity, hypersonics, and aircraft and propulsion design. In addition to research opportunities, Visiting Professors work closely with highly motivated cadets. The Visiting Faculty Program provides an excellent opportunity for a funded, one-year sabbatical for civilian university faculty and US Government employees.
View the course roadmap for USAFA’s Class of 2021 Aeronautical Engineering majors here. For more information on individual aeronautical engineering courses, please see the USAFA Aeronautics Curriculum Guide for a detailed overview of the courses that we offer. For more information about the VFP take a look at the Visiting Faculty Program Fact Sheet.
Application packages are due no later than Oct. 11, 2019 and must include the following documents:
- A completed Candidate Information Worksheet. Please do not fill out the fields for Date of Birth, Social Security Number, Place of Birth, or family information unless you can send encrypted emails. We will solicit this information later should you be selected to a position.

I hope you consider applying for this year’s Visiting Faculty Program. If this year does not work for you, please consider joining our Department at a
future time. Additionally, I invite you to widely share this information with any colleagues that you would recommend and who might be interested
joining the USAFA Department of Aeronautics as a Visiting Professor.
