USAFA to host Character and Leadership Symposium this week

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — The Air Force Academy will host the National Character and Leadership Symposium Feb. 22-23 in Arnold Hall.

The two-day annual symposium provides an opportunity for Academy personnel, visiting university students and faculty to experience dynamic speakers and take part in group discussions to enhance their understanding of the importance of sound moral character and good leadership.

This year’s NCLS speakers will focus on the value and importance of ethics and respect for human dignity across personal and professional cultures.

The event will kick off Thursday morning with an Opening Ceremony and remarks from Academy superintendent Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria.

Scheduled speakers include Dr. Ruth Westheimer, orphan of the holocaust; Virginia Prodan, International Human Rights Attorney; Maj. Colin Merrin, member of the USAF Summit Everest Team; Dr. Erroll G. Southers, authority on counter-terrorism public safety, infrastructure protection and homeland security; Anne Munch, sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking consultant; Brenda Tracy, sexual assault survivor; Cornell West, philosopher, political activist, social critic and members of a transgender panel.

More than 200 students from top U.S. universities were nominated by their schools to attend the symposium.
