U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Rising Air Force sophomore Hunter Boyer was recently selected to the Team USA roster for the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships that begin next week in Tampere, Finland.

The native of Lowell, Indiana, will represent the U.S. in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

Boyer is one of 79 athletes from 24 states to compete for Team USA during the six-day Under-20 championship at Tampere Stadium. He placed fifth at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships last month in Bloomington, Indiana, but was the only finisher to have met the IAAF World Qualifying Standard.

Boyer earned the Team USA bid based on his Air Force Freshman Class Record time of 9:05.43 from the Oxy Invitational in May – a mark that was nearly five seconds better than the IAAF standard.

The opening round of steeplechase competition will take place at 10:00 a.m. (Eastern European Summer Time) on Thursday, July 12, while the championship will take place at 1:45 p.m. (EEST) on Sunday, July 15. The IAAF World U20 Championships will be broadcast through the NBC Sports Gold package.
