U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — The 10th Air Base Wing’s top officer is examining the possibility of a wing reorganization to increase long-term effectiveness.

Colonel Shawn Campbell, commander of the 10th ABW, revealed the ongoing study during his commander’s call, September 14 in Arnold Hall.

“How do we take the resources we have and realign them to be more effective?” he said.

Campbell said he’s been authorized by senior officials at the Academy to research the implications of a complete overhaul at the wing.

The 10th ABW is responsible for the Academy’s infrastructure, civil engineering, medical  and security, among other services. Approximately 3,000 military and civilian employees and contractors work at the wing, providing service to a military community of about 25,000 people.

Campbell did not announce when he expects the study to be complete, but did say his main concern was that any change must lead to improvement.

“It’s a top priority for us,” he said. “We must do this right. This is an enormous undertaking.”

The colonel said the desired result is simple: improved effectiveness and customer service.

Campbell also highlighted a newly-funded running track to replace the existing track near the Community Center Fitness Center by next summer.

The project was partially driven by complaints from Airman who have said the uneven condition of the current track gives them a disadvantage during their annual physical fitness test.

Campbell said he’s very optimistic about the future of the 10th ABW.

“We do big things together and everybody matters,” he said. “We’re focusing on where we’re going together into this year and where we’re going to go after this year. Any success is because of you, because of our terrific team.”
