Public Notice: Violation of Colorado Primary Drinking Water Regulations

By 10th Mission Support Group/Sept. 20, 2017

In accordance with Section 11.28(3)(c) of Regulation 11, suppliers of water that operate finished (drinking) water storage tanks are required to perform periodic and comprehensive inspections of these tanks. The periodic inspections must be performed on a quarterly basis and comprehensive inspections every five years.  During a sanitary survey of the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) public water system on 12 July 2017, an inspector from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) observed that the periodic inspections of finished water storage tanks were not adequately documented.

Water Quality

  • There are no known potential adverse health effects as a result of this violation.
  • No one is at risk based upon this violation; however, Colorado law requires notification of all personnel connected to the USAFA water distribution system.
  • Currently there is no need to use alternate water supplies.
  • Water system users need not take any actions regarding their drinking water at this time.

USAFA is currently performing and documenting inspections of the finished water storage tanks. The 10th Civil Engineering Squadron has inspected two of the five finished water storage tanks and properly documented those inspections. The remaining three tanks will undergo documented inspections by 31 October 2017.  Upon completion of the documented inspections, USAFA will be in compliance with Colorado Drinking Water Regulations.
