TAMPERE, Finland – Rising Air Force Academy sophomore athlete Hunter Boyer capped his first international meet with a 21st-place finish in the opening round of the 3000-meter steeplechase at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships July 12 at Ratina Stadium in Tampere, Finland.

Finishing the race in a time of 9:13.74, Boyer placed 12th in his heat — and 21st in the overall field of world competitors. The lone Team USA representative in a steeplechase that featured athletes from 24 different countries, Boyer registered his third-fastest time of the season –a mark just eight seconds off of his Air Force Freshman Class Record time of 9:05.43.

The top 15 finishers from this preliminary round will compete in the finals July 15.
