Academy traffic impacts for Air Force v. Navy football game

By U.S. Air Force Academy Public Affairs, Oct. 5, 2018

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Thousands of fans will attend the annual football game between Air Force and Navy at Falcon Stadium on Saturday, Oct 6. This will result in a huge increase in the volume of traffic normally seen on the Academy.

To help alleviate congestion and reduce the risk of traffic accidents, the following measures will apply:

    • Fans attending the game who do not have a Department of Defense ID card are subject to normal visitor access procedures. At the gate, they are expected to provide a valid driver’s license and allow security personnel to visually inspect their vehicles, including trunks.  Please have your IDs available as you enter the gate.
    • Air Force and contractor personnel provide vehicle traffic control and manage parking operations. In order to expedite the traffic flow and maintain safety, please follow all directions and comply with verbal or posted instructions.
    • For fans arriving via the South Gate, all northbound traffic across the tri-intersection bridge will be one way starting at 9 a.m. and continuing until approximately 3 p.m.
    • Base residents and visitors will not be able to access Stadium Boulevard from Pine or Community Center Drive.  Plan to exit at the North Gate.
    • Base residents and visitors travelling northbound on Stadium Boulevard may access Pine or Community Drive.
    • At approximately 3 p.m., traffic flow will reverse to allow maximal flow for exiting traffic. Both lanes of the tri-intersection bridge will only be open for southbound traffic for fans wanting to leave via the South Gate. Residents or visitors that need access to portions of the base north of the bridge must use the North Gate until the bridge returns to two-way traffic.
    • For safety, bicycles will not be allowed access to Academy roadways on Saturday 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., because of the increased motor vehicle traffic and abnormal traffic patterns.
    • All other regulations and procedures for accessing and driving on base are still in effect.

All times listed above are subjected to change.
