Cadet candidates at the Prep School

The U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School was established in 1961 under the command of Colonel Lee Charles Black. Today, the Preparatory School offers a select group of enlisted personnel and civilians, a potential pathway to join the cadets at the Academy. The school provides the academic, leadership, and physical skills to prepare them for success as future officers.

While cadet candidates are not guaranteed an appointment to the Academy, they earn consideration and a recommendation from the preparatory school commander if they successfully complete the 10-month program.

There is no independent application process for the Preparatory School unless you are enlisted. If you apply to the Academy and are not offered an appointment, you will be automatically considered for admission into the Preparatory School. Admission is limited to selected civilian students, enlisted members, and reservists who meet admission requirements.
